REVIEW: Talk by Two Door Cinema Club

Two Door Cinema Club have made a strong comeback with their irresistible summer anthem, ‘Talk’. Continuing on from the third album, ‘Gameshow’, the Irish trio have returned with a similar vibrant sound, but are now exuding more synth-pop fever than ever.

‘Talk’ begins with drum and bass rhythm that will get your feet tapping without any hesitation. Then, the enigmatic lyrics and bouncy guitar work establish the track’s zany atmosphere.

Speaking about the new release, frontman Alex Trimble said: “I love the pop thing. I love experimenting and going to different places. I love doing things that are a little bit wonky, and I love the idea of doing something we haven’t done before. Why can’t we do all of those things at once?”

The seamless blend of fresh electronic beats and hints of retro funk allows the ecstatic chorus to beam with confidence.

Ignited by a tenacious drum back-beat, the bridge provides a massive motivational boost, with its persuasive lyric phrases and repetitive nature.

To describe the video in two words, I would say ‘random’ and ‘entertaining’. Directed by Max Siedentopf, the video includes the band and a group of acrobats taking part in different scenarios, like running into an upright mattress and the band swinging frontman Trimble on the floor while he is upside down with a brush on his head. Therefore, it’s no surprise that in a recent interview with Radio X, bassist Kevin Baird stated it was the “the most fun [video] to make”.

Although their material has slightly converged from the indie genre to pop, Two Door Cinema Club have continued to produce tunes that will get everybody dancing. From what has been announced so far, many festival goers in both Europe and the UK will be treated to this shot of synthesized perfection, as well as TDCC’s previous indie anthems this summer.
